NOAA Coral Reef Ecosystem Program

The Coral Reef Ecosystem Program (CREP) is a division of the Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) of the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). CREP's mission is to provide high-quality scientific information about the status and trends of coral reef ecosystems of the central and western Pacific (see map) to the resource managers, policymakers, and public at domestic and international levels. CREP has developed coral reef ecosystem monitoring reports in previous years for both the Mariana Archipelago and the American Samoa, and has now partnered with the Bren School to develop a Coral Reef Ecosystem Monitoring Report for the Pacific Remote Island Areas (PRIA). NOAA Fisheries Service Pacific Islands Regional Office

The Pacific Islands Regional Office (PIRO) of the National Marine Fisheries Service manages programs that support both domestic and international conservation and management of living marine resources within the Pacific. PIRO is responsible for assisting the Western Pacific Fishery Management Council in the development of fishery management plans and amendments, drafting and implementing federal fishery regulations, issuing federal fishing permits, and monitoring fisheries. Other responsibilities include the conservation and recovery of protected species, the preservation and restoration of marine habitat, and the coordination with international organizations to implement and monitor fishery agreements and treaties. PIRO will utilize the findings from this project to draft the PRIA Monument Management Plan. For more information about PIRO and their programs, see here.
