Mark Buntaine | Faculty AdvisorMark Buntaine is an Assistant Professor of International Relations and Environmental Policy at the Bren School. His research investigates the sources of effective environmental policy in developing countries, with an emphasis on the targeting and impact of foreign aid. Buntaine leads a range of international projects that deal with the allocation practices of aid donors, the participation of citizens in environmental policy-making, the relationship between public and private financing of environmental technologies, the processes that lead to effective government reform, and the evaluation of environmental projects, among other interests. He has done fieldwork in many countries across Asia, Africa, and South America.

Owen Liu | PhD AdvisorOwen Liu is a PhD student in the Bren School and a member of the Gaines Lab. Owen hails originally from Boston, Massachusetts, but is a B.S. and M.S. graduate of Stanford University. He has always loved the ocean, and studies sustainable fisheries and marine ecology. Before Bren, Owen worked on fisheries with the Environmental Defense Fund, which took him to the Philippines, Indonesia, Cuba, and back again. When he's not counting fish, Owen loves to sing, ski, and scuba dive.
